Why Your Small Business Needs Pinterest

Why Your Small Business Needs Pinterest

If your small business offers products and services that mostly are marketed to women, then Pinterest is for you.  The audience that Pinterest draws are largely women, and of that Millennial Moms.  Look at the numbers below.

Pinterest is very different then Facebook Fan pages, as with Pinterest you can create different boards for each of your product and services.  This translates into people being more interested and engaging with your specific boards due to they do not have to sift through all the other content like with Facebook.

Pinterest Numbers….

  • Women Use it More.
  • Millennial Moms are the largest group of women.
  • 35% of users have household income over $100k.
  • 52% Use Pinterest in their buying decision.
  • 89% of Pinterest Users have purchased something they found on Pinterest
  • Average value of shopping from Pinterest is $58.00

Is stating the numbers above, Pinterest is just like all the other social media platforms – it is just not there to only promote, you have to build up credibility and interest by pinning engaging pins, and sharing other like-minded pins and so forth.

Building Followers

There are many ways to get people interested in your Pinterest account.  Start with inviting them to it by other social media platforms by using the sharing buttons.  You can embed the pins into your content on blog posts, websites and so on.

The best way to build your audience is by following/joining someone else’s.  You can use the search feature within Pinterest to find products and services like yours and start out by repining their pins.  Their audience will also see this and then start following you!

Business Or Personal Account?

When setting up your Pinterest account, chose the Business one, as you can verify your website URL and prove to people who you are.  I would also setup a few boards to start with also, like the following:  Products or Services, Help or FAQ’s  and one just about fun.  Think of these boards as sections within Pinterest and be as specific as you can.

Pinterest Links

Probably the best thing about pins are that the images link directly to content.  Content can be blog posts, sales pages, videos and so on..  This is unlike Facebook Fan pages where images cannot be linked to an external source.  When you click on them in Facebook – they just enlarge them.

Pinterest & SEO

Last but least – Pinterest boards often appear in Google search results.  That’s a great side benefit to remember as when you name your boards –name them specifically to the niche or products you are trying to sell.

Why You Need A YouTube Channel

Why You Need A YouTube Channel

As you can see there is a basic theme I am going over.  Different mediums or social media platforms for reaching out and engaging with your customers, client’s, patients’, friends and family.  Each person is different and each person has their own way of consuming information.

YouTube Statistics

Today I am going to give you some reasons on why YOU need to create a YouTube channel.

  • It’s the Number 2 Search Engine with over 1.3 billion (Remember Google is Number 1)
  • Video is more engaging then standard “text only” content.
  • YouTube Gets 30 Million Visitors per day
  • Mobile YouTube users spend on average 40 minutes per session/visit.
  • It’s FREE and very easy to use

Now with all those basic reasons to create a YouTube channel, let me give you the biggest one yet….

Google Owns YouTube

YouTube is owned by Google – And you can already see in plenty of search results – Google places video right alongside other static webpages.  People click on the video first!  You can also search engine optimize YouTube videos and get them ranked in no time for specific keywords about your business, products and so on.

YouTube is a great medium for sharing new product information, new product launches, quick tips and tricks and announcements.  This list can go on and on.  You get the idea.

Short Videos

I find that that shorter videos like the ones I am doing today with Facebook Live stand out more as people want information in short quick and understandable content.  Once they watch and their interest is peaked – then you can drive them to a longer more detailed and information stocked video.

Creating Videos = FUN

Creating videos is FUN.  With the new technology and smart phones, everyone can be a video producer, just like I am today.  Believe me anyone can do it.  You can start out small with short 30 seconds videos.  Just get yourself in front of the camera and smile, be yourself.  The more you do it the more you will get comfortable with it.

Your Own YouTube Channel

There is really not much more I can say about creating a YouTube channel for your local business.  This may sound like a daunting task or you may be a shy person, it just needs to happen so get out there and do it.

Like all my other videos – I will be doing a few “how to” videos on creating the Google My Business page, Facebook Fan Pages and your YouTube Channel along with all of the other important social media platforms.  So stay tuned for those!

Facebook Fan Pages – Why You Need Them

Why Facebook Fan Pages?

Small businesses are beginning to see the huge value that social media can add to their bottom line. There are more than 50 million and growing everyday business pages on Facebook.

By creating a Facebook Fan Page your business can use it to interact with potential customers, friends and other businesses and zoom in on your actual target market by listening to the feedback provided by your users.

Facts About Facebook

Here are some simple statistics for you to think about while you are contemplating creating a Fan Page if you have not already.

  • 94 Billion yes that is a B monthly active Facebook users.
  • 28 Billion users log in everyday.
  • 74 Billion use a Mobile device
  • Average Time Spent on Facebook “per visit” is 20 minutes.

Fan Pages Become The Human Face Of the Business

What does this mean?  Many of your fans (prospective customers) have never met you, know very little about you and your business.  This gives them a personal medium for them to get to know you and your business by your interactions.

Fan Pages Are a Community

By creating a Fan Page, you create a community of like-minded individuals that will/can provide reviews, share opinions, and offer feedback.

Fan Pages Are Not A 24X7 Sales Platform

Your Fan Page is NOT, and let me say this twice NOT a 24X7 sales platform.  If you use it as that, people will stop coming to your page, stop sharing your posts and stop commenting.

You need to post relevant content, that is engaging to your fans.  This could be current news related items, posts about similar likes and interests, maybe even similar products and have a daily conversation with them.

Just Like Google My Business

Facebook has local search capabilities and when you have your Fan Page built correctly and optimized, prospective customers and fans will be able to find you a lot easier.

Your Competition Already Has One

If you want to get a good idea of what should be done and what should not be done with Facebook Fan page – go do a few searches.  Pay attention to the ones that have 1000’s of Fans, read their articles and see how they post.  There’re doing it right.

Why You Need A Facebook Fan Page

The main goal of any business is to make more sales, increase your bottom line and provide real value.   Facebook can assist you with the exact target market that wants to purchase what you have to sale.  Whether it’s widgets, plastic gas cans spouts or digital media, people are always looking for something and let’s face it – they feel good after they purchase it.

Google My Business – Why You Need It

Google My Business

Google My Business is more important than ever for small businesses to be found in a local search and also to obtain ratings and reviews from customers.  Google My Business connects you directly with customers, whether they’re looking for you on Search, Maps or Google+,

GMB uses categories to better identify each business and makes it easier for customers to find the information about your business online, including hours of operation, contact information and directions – and this displays across multiple devices. Including Android, Apple, and Microsoft smart phones

Local Searches & Search Engine Optimization

A local search is when someone adds a location to the search term – such as “Online Marketing Cedar Rapids”.  A Google My Business profile is a MUST HAVE for local Search Engine Optimization.  It’s free to set up and will enable you to appear in local search results for queries specific to your products or services on the Google Search Engine.

When users search for your product or service, the local search listings better known as “The Snack Pack” are the ones that are the top of the search engine.  In most cases, these local listings will be accompanied by markers for the lucky few, along with their addresses and phone numbers.

Google’s search engine will also display a local map that has a click to navigate to each business and highlights the visual aspect from the streetview and other MAPS options.

Just like your website needs SEO, the information you use for Google My Business should be consistent or congruent across the GMB page, this also means that all your Internet properties and other third-party directory listings should have the same look and feel.

When you do this, your site will be recognized as an even more reputable business in the consumer’s eyes, this also has another affect in which provides higher rankings on the search engines.

This is one of the most important tasks to take seriously when first starting out in your business.  You need to claim and optimize your Google My Business Page.

Business Directories

Besides pushing your business to the top of the search rankings, it’ll also help potential clients:

  • Find your contact details fast (Click to call)
  • See your business hours
  • Learn what others say about your business (Reviews)
  • Quickly find directions to your location (Click to Navigate)
  • See what your office or store looks like since you can add photos and even videos
  • Google Streetview 360 photospheres (Visually see both the interior and exterior of your business)

Some of the other benefits of properly optimizing your page are:

  • Links your website to your Local page
  • Increases your business’s exposure and search traffic
  • You have full control over your business details and changing them
  • It’s where Google Reviews are stored/viewed
  • It is part of the SEO algorithm from Google themselves – you need it – if you want to rank with Google’s search engine.
  • Google’s search engine is used by 79% of the Internet Searches.
    • (Bing = 9.9%, Yahoo = 8.34, AOL = 0.84%)

While you may be ranking very well it in terms of search engine results, there is always room for improvement.  Be sure local customers are finding you by taking advantage of this highly effective tool.
